Marlis Stubenvoll & Alice Binder receive Research Award! The University of Vienna's Department of Communication awarded Marlis and Alice the competitive Research Award 2020 for their proposal "Is knowledge power? Investigating chilling effects as a consequence of declarative and procedural online privacy protection knowledge using browser histories". The award, established in 2014, offers financial support for young scholars to conduct innovative research projects.

New article available! The journal Computers in Human Behavior already released Jörg Matthes's, Marina Thomas's, Anja Stevic's and Desirée Schmuck's work on "Fighting over smartphones? Parents' excessive smartphone use, lack of control over children's use, and conflict". The print article will appear in volume 116 in March 2021.

Dissertation Award! We are happy to announce that Kevin Koban just received the award for the Best Dissertation 2020 at the Faculty of Humanities of the TU Chemnitz (Germany). His dissertation dealt with "Interactivity as Dynamic Demand. A Conceptual, Methodological, and Empirical Foundation for an Innovative Approach to Study Video Games" and was supervised by Professor Peter Ohler. The recipient of the award also receives prize money of € 1.000.

Alice Binder new Vice-Head of the Advertising Division of the German Communication Association!
Alice has been appointed during the division's last (virtual) meeting on November 26. She will serve as the division's vice-head alongside our former team member Brigitte Naderer.

He will support the work we are conducting within our research project Social Media Use and Adolescents' Well-Being. Hendrik studied Communication and Media Science / Political Science (B.A.: 2020) at the University of Bremen, Germany. Since autumn 2020, he is a student of our English-speaking Master (MSc) program in Communication Science.

Helena Knupfer joining as predoc! We are delighted that Helena will continue her academic journey within our research group and, starting now, joins as a predoctoral researcher for the upcoming four years. Helena has been part of AdME since October 2017, when she joined as a teaching assistant.
Helena studied Journalism and Communication Science at the University of Vienna (MA with distinction, 2020), and is currently still studying toward a MSc at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Vienna as well (expected graduation in January 2021). Furthermore, she holds a BSc in Psychology (University of Vienna, 2016) and a BA (Bakk.) in Journalism and Communication Science (University of Vienna, 2016).

Dissertation Award! We are very proud to announce that the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Vienna honors Alice Binder with the 2020 Sowi-Doc. Award. Alice receives the award for her outstanding dissertation entitled "The influence of healthy food placements within children's movies. Persuasive mechanisms and effects", which she completed with "summa cum laude" in April 2020. Additionally, the recipient of the award receives prize money of € 1.500.

Kevin Koban joining AdME! We are happy to announce to Kevin has joined our research group today and will work as a postdoctoral researcher within the project "Social Media Use and Adolescents' Well-Being". The project runs from September 2020 to August 2023 and is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
Kevin joins from the Texas Tech University (USA), where he worked as postdoctoral research associate at the College of Media and Communication. He completed his Ph.D. entitled Interactivity as dynamic demand. A conceptual, methodological, and empirical foundation for an innovative approach to study video games ("summa cum laude") at the Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany) in Fall 2019. Prior, he studied Media and Communication (B.A.: 2013; M.A.: 2016) at Chemnitz University of Technology as well.

Jörg Matthes new Associate Editor of the Journal of Advertising!
Since June 2020, Professor Matthes is one of the appointed associate editors of the Journal of Adverting, the current flagship journal of our research field. For 2019, the Journal of Advertising is the top-ranked journal in the field of communication with an Impact Factor of 6.302. It also ranks 12th in the field of Business.

2019 Impact Factor released! Communication Methods & Measures, edited by Jörg Matthes and published by Taylor & Francis as well as affiliated with the Communication Theory & Methodology Division of AEJMC, now ranks 4/92 in the field of Communication, with an Impact Factor of 5.281 for 2019. This is a major increase from 2018's Impact Factor of 2.306 and rank 20/88 overall.

Top AdME job placement! Brigitte Naderer has accepted a position at one of the best communication departments in Europe, the Department of Media and Communication at the LMU Munich, Germany. Starting January 1, she joined the lab of Professor Diana Rieger.
Brigitte studied Communication Science (MA, 2012) and Political Science (MA, 2014) at the University of Vienna. Starting September 2013, she was a predoctoral researcher within our research group. Her PhD project entitled "The impact of product placements in children's movies. Content, effects, and protective measures", supervised by Jörg Matthes, was awarded the 2018 Bank Austria Research Award as well as a Top Dissertation Award by the International Communication Association (ICA). Brigitte defended her dissertation with "summa cum laude" (highest honor) in March 2017 and, since September 2017, worked as a postdoctoral researcher within our group.
