    New papers published! The Journal of Communication published the article "Dose-dependent media priming effects of stereotypic newspaper articles on implicit and explicit stereotypes" by Florian Arendt. The article "Elaboration or distraction? Knowledge acquisition from thematically related and unrelated humor in political speeches" by Jörg Matthes appeared in issue 3 of the International Journal of Public Opinion Research.

    Three Top Paper Awards
    at AEJMC! The paper "Toward a cognitive-affective process model of hostile media perceptions: A multi-country structural equation modeling approach" by Professor Matthes, co-authored by Audun Beyer (U of Oslo), won two Top Paper Awards! It received the First Place Top Faculty Paper Award by the Communication Theory and Methodology Division! It was also awarded as the Top Theory Paper at the same division. Furthermore, the paper "Taking a closer look at green ads. Consumers' green involvement and the persuasive effects of emotional versus functional advertising appeals" authored by Jörg Matthes, Anke Wonneberger, and Desirée Schmuck received a Third Place Top Faculty Research Paper Award by AEJMC's Advertising Division.

    ICORIA Top Paper Nomination! The paper by Jörg Matthes and Anke Wonneberger "Why Do Green Consumers Tend to Trust Green Ads? Testing the Mediating Roles of Informational Utility and Emotional Appeal", has been nominated for the Best Paper Award at this years' International Conference on Research in Advertising (ICORIA). As one of only six papers up for the award, the paper explores the relationship between green consumer attitudes and distrust toward advertising.

    New articles published! The International Journal of Public Opinion Research published an article by Professor Matthes asking "Do hostile opinion environments harm political participation? The moderating role of generalized social trust." The same issue also contains a piece by Anke Wonneberger (co-authored by Klaus Schönbach and Lex van Meurs) entitled "Dimensionality of TV-news exposure: Mapping news viewing behavior with people-meter data."

    in Boston! Jörg Matthes will present two papers at the 66th Annual Conference of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) in Boston, Massachusetts. The papers are entitled "Explaining Public Distrust in News Media: A Cross-national Panel Study on the Role of Affects in Hostile Media Perceptions", and "Toward Conceptualizing and Measuring Debate Efficacy in Public Opinion Research".

    More AdMe-talk across the channel in 2013! Franziska Marquart and Florian Arendt will give two presentations at the annual conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) in Dublin, Ireland, from the 25-29th of June this year. Their works are entitled "Visualization and personalization in right-wing populist political advertising. A longitudinal content analysis of Austrian campaign posters" and "Corrupt politicians? Media priming effects on political stereotypes and the moderating impact of implicit political cognition." Moreover, a paper co-authored by Anke Wonneberger entitled "We are Nobel prize! European online newspapers' coverage and framing of the EU identity in the debate on the Nobel Peace Prize" has been accepted. All talks will be given to the Political Communication division.
